Msafiri Zawose is a Gogo-fusion musician from Tanzania.
Gogo music derives its distinctive sound from the mixture of a variety of unique instruments and vocal harmonies indigenous to the Wagogo, an ethnic group that historically inhabited central Tanzania. Msafiri is a master of traditional Gogo instruments such as the limba (thumb piano), filimbi (flute), zeze (bowed/plucked lute), ngoma (hand drums), and marimba (xylophone). Born into a family that honors tradition, Msafiri is the son and musical heir of Hukwe Zawose – a musical giant who was a founding member of Tanzania’s post-independence National Dance Troupe and who toured extensively as part of Peter Gabriel’s Real World roster in the 1980s and 1990s. Hukwe left a lasting legacy, but Msafiri has stepped into the limelight with his own take on traditional Gogo music, fused with a variety of contemporary influences.
Performing solo or leading a larger ensemble, Msafiri has developed a compelling live act that balances virtuosic instrumental playing with rich, evocative vocals, electronics, and songwriting that effortlessly switches from deeply moving to joyously uplifting. Msafiri has toured extensively throughout the world having performed and led educational workshops in the Unites States, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
Having commercially released six full-length albums, Msafiri continues to tirelessly evolve his sound through a growing list of collaborations with a wide range of international labels, producers, and artists. In 2017, Msafiri’s album Uhamiaji was released on Soundway Records, an award-winning London-based independent record label. In January 2020, Msafiri and Penya, a UK-based electronic music quartet, released Penya na Msafiri Zawose with On the Corner Records, another London-based label. Msafiri and Penya have continued to collaborate as WEMA, a supergroup including New York producer Photay. WEMA’s self-titled, debut album is scheduled for release on April 29, 2022. The result of a separate collaboration in 2021, Dutch producer Feiertag and Msafiri's song “Trepidation” is featured on the soundtrack of FIFA 22, a video game published by Electronic Arts, one of the world’s major video game publishers.
Msafiri was a co-winner of the Beyond Music Project, a by-invitation social networking platform and musical collaboration project, in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Recently, Msafiri was nominated for the “Experimental Music” award at the 2021 Sondeka Awards as well as “Best Traditional Song of the Year” at the 2021 Tanzania Music Awards where he won “Best Male Traditional Musician.”

伝統を重んじる家庭に生まれたムサフィリは、タンザニア独立後の国立ダンス・グループの創設メンバーであり、 1980年代から1990年代にかけてピーター・ガブリエルのリアル・ワールドのメンバーとして広範囲にツアーを行った音楽界の巨匠、フクウェ・ザウォセの息子であり音楽の後継者です。 フクウェは永続的な遺産を残しましたが、ムサフィリは伝統的なゴゴ音楽にさまざまな現代的な影響を融合させた独自の解釈で脚光を浴びています。 ソロで演奏したり、より大規模なアンサンブルを率いたりして、ムサフィリは、巧みな楽器演奏と豊かで刺激的なボーカル、エレクトロニクス、 そして深い感動から喜びに満ちた高揚感へと楽々と切り替わる作詞作曲をバランスよく組み合わせた、魅力的なライブアクトを生み出しました。
ムサフィリは、米国、ヨーロッパ、アフリカ、アジア、中東で演奏や教育ワークショップの指導を行い、世界中を広くツアーしています。 6枚のフルアルバムを商業的にリリースしたムサフィリは、幅広い国際的なレーベル、プロデューサー、アーティストとのコラボレーションを増やし、 精力的にサウンドを進化させ続けています。2017年、ムサフィリのアルバム「Uhamiaji」は、受賞歴のあるロンドンを拠点とする独立系レコードレーベル、Soundway Recordsからリリースされました。
2020年1月、英国を拠点とするエレクトロニックミュージックカルテットのMsafiriとPenyaは、 ロンドンを拠点とする別のレーベルOn the Corner RecordsからPenya na Msafiri Zawoseをリリースしました。MsafiriとPenyaは、ニューヨークのプロデューサーPhotayを含むスーパーグループWEMAとしてコラボレーションを続けています。WEMAのセルフタイトルのデビューアルバムは、2022年4月29日にリリースされる予定です。
2021年の別のコラボレーションの結果、オランダのプロデューサーFeiertagとMsafiriの曲「Trepidation」は、 世界有数のビデオゲームパブリッシャーの1つであるElectronic Artsが発行するビデオゲームFIFA 22のサウンドトラックに収録されています。
ムサフィリは、招待制のソーシャル ネットワーキング プラットフォームおよび 音楽コラボレーション プロジェクトであるビヨンド ミュージック プロジェクトの 2019 年、2020 年、2021 年の共同優勝者です。
最近では、2021 年のソンデカ賞で「実験音楽」賞にノミネートされたほか、2021 年のタンザニア音楽賞で「年間最優秀伝統歌」にノミネートされ、「最優秀男性伝統音楽家」を受賞しました。

In 2018, three unique artists from Tokyo who have been active in their own fields crossed the boundaries and started moving as "ZEN RYDAZ".

Not only WORLD MUSIC as a genre, but also bringing together the worldview, sensibility and skills that the members have acquired in their respective fields, they will create a hybrid ZEN sound from ASIA that will resonate into the future.

The two albums released, including remixes, completely transcend genres and continue to shake the floor. And in 2021, a video work filmed at an abandoned amusement park shocked artists not only in Japan but all over the world, and since then, new exchanges and diverse concepts that transcend genres have been created, and they are no longer just a unit, but are increasingly playing the role of a movement that inspires new inspiration and expands values.


それぞれのフィールドで活動してきた東京出身個性派３人が2018年、垣根を越え”ZEN RYDAZ”として動き出す。

ジャンルとしてのWORLD MUSICだけではなく、メンバーがそれぞれの現場で得た世界観、感性、スキルを結集し、 ASIA発のハイブリッドZENサウンドを未来に響かせる。

リリースされた2枚のアルバムは、リミックスも含め、完全にジャンルを超越し、いまだフロアを揺らし続ける。
そして2021年、廃墟の遊園地で撮影された映像作品は日本のみならず、世界中のアーティスト達に衝撃を与え、 それ以降ジャンルを超える新たな交流や多様な概念が生み出され、もはや単なるユニットというよりも新たなインスピレーションを触発し、 価値観を拡張するムーブメントとしての役割が色濃くなっていっている。

東京都足立区出身。NITRO MICROPHONE UNDERGROUNDのメンバーとして活動し、ラッパーとしてはもちろん、アーティストへの楽曲プロデュースやトラック制作などもこなすアウトプットディレクター。ソロ活動ではトラックからラップまで全て一人で創るスタイルでジャンルの壁を越えHIP-HOPにとどまらず他のジャンル界からも話題になる作品を発表し続けている。メジャーレーベルからのセルフプロデュースのソロアルバム(Victor Music,EMI records)の他、MACKA-CHIN名義でのDVD作品やスケボービデオのサウンドトラック集、HP(NIKE,DAIWA,UNITED ARROWS etc)音楽、CM(寿月堂 etc)音楽など多岐にわたって制作している。2013年には楽曲プロデューサーにGRUNTERZを迎え、自身初となるラップだけに徹したアルバム"incompleteness theorem"を発表し日本のHIP-HOP/RAPシーンから話題を集めた。2014年には"心が落ち着く音楽"をテーマに掲げ、架空の映画のサウンドトラックアルバムとしてアンビエントアルバム"静かな月と夜"を術ノ穴レーベルから発表。オリジナリティ溢れる作品はアート作品としても話題になり各業界からも注目され話題に。2016年10月には全国各地から9組14名のアーティストを客演に迎えた初のPRODUCE ALBUM "MARIRIN CAFE BLUE"を発表。TRACK MAKERとしても改めて高い評価を得る。またソロ以外の活動も活発でMABO(MACKA-CHIN＋DABO)やMONTIEN(SUIKEN＋TINA＋MACKA-CHIN)、東京弐拾伍時(DABO＋MACKA-CHIN＋SUIKEN＋S-WORD)としてコンビを組み多くの作品、アルバムを発表。またDJの活動も忙しく、グルーブで繫ぐ幅広い選曲はジャンルレスに様々なイベントやフェスに数多く呼ばれ、制作にLIVEやDJと全国を数多く飛び回っている。DJ名義ではBLACK SMOKER RECORDSからのリリースやアパレルブランド(BACK CHANNEL etc)等とのコラボレーションCDでも数々の作品を発表している。音楽以外の活動ではイベントオーガナイズやフリーペーパー等の執筆連載、MUSIC VIDEOの監督などマルチに才能を発揮。また2018年からはTOKYO FMにて音楽番組のパーソナリティも務めるなど、色んな意味で目が離せないMCであり、プロデューサーであり、DJであり、ビジュアルクリエイターである。宇宙と自然が大好き。

レーベルHoodish recordings主宰、SOUNDSYSTEM BAR 88blockのプロデューサーとしても活動。これまでベースミュージック・クルー、 PART2STYLEとして世界各国、数々のパーティーやフェスティバルでプレイし、世界中のサウンドシステム・ミュージックファンやトップ・プレイヤー達から高い評価を受けている。 国内外のアーティストへの楽曲提供、Remix、CM楽曲制作など数多くこなしつつ、DJとしてもBIG FloorからChillin’なプレイまでスタイルのレンジが広く、 出音も体格もヘビーウエイト。2021年、夏に全治9ヶ月の大怪我により90日に及ぶ入院生活の中、病室で制作したソロ名義としては初のアルバム 『Primal Dub』を2022年1月にリリース。Apple Music、iTunes レゲエアルバムチャートで1位を獲得。インストアルバムとしては異例のセールスを記録。 Hoodish Recordingsからの第一弾としてリリースで、後続してコンスタントにリリースを繰り返す音源のミキシングやマスタリング、プロデュースワークも行う。
23年にリリースした続編も国内のみならず、海外のApple Musicのチャートでも数カ国でTOP10入りと軒並みランクイン。
J.A.K.A.M.とMACHA-CHINとのプロデューサーユニット「ZENRYDAZ」としてもこれまで２枚のアルバムをリリースし話題を集めている。


MaL Biography Track maker, DJ, producer. He is also the founder of the label Hoodish recordings and the producer of SOUNDSYSTEM BAR 88block. He has played at numerous parties and festivals around the world as part of the bass music crew PART2STYLE, and has received high praise from sound system music fans and top players around the world. He has provided songs for domestic and international artists, remixed them, and produced many commercial songs, and as a DJ, he has a wide range of styles from BIG Floor to Chillin', and is heavyweight in both sound output and physique. In the summer of 2021, he was hospitalized for 90 days due to a serious injury that took 9 months to heal, and released his first solo album, ``Primal Dub,'' in January 2022. It reached No. 1 on the Apple Music and iTunes reggae album charts. It recorded unusual sales for an instrumental album. This was the first release from Hoodish Recordings, and he also mixed, mastered, and produced the subsequent sound sources that are constantly being released. The sequel, released in 2011, was a big hit not only in Japan, but also in the top 10 of several overseas Apple Music charts. He has also released two albums as part of the producer duo "ZENRYDAZ" with J.A.K.A.M. and MACHA-CHIN, which have been garnering attention.

Born in Tokyo, he started playing in bands and DJing at the same time when he was 15. As a DJ, his innovative and original style and his activities have quickly expanded from huge festivals to underground parties both in Japan and abroad. In 2003, he went on a recording tour with local musicians in Cuba, and since then he has been recording all over the world, and started his own label, Crosspoint, as a new guideline for New World Music. In music production, he has also produced video works, picture books and art books, and organized the outdoor festival "Jomon and Rebirth" in 2012.
9 consecutive months of vinyl releases in 2015 became a big topic, and his fourth album was released at the end of that year, which led to the worldwide release of his new album on the Berlin/Israeli label Malka Tuti.
HIGHTIME Inc. with DJ TASAKA in 2017, and ZEN RYDAZ, a unit with MACKA-CHIN of Nitro Microphone Underground and MaL of PART2STYLE, in 2018. In the same year, his music under the name of J.A.K.A.M. was released in analog form on the French label HardFist, which led to a live performance at the huge 30,000-person Nuits Sonores Festival in Lyon, followed by a DJ tour of Europe and Israel.
In 2019, the production of MYSTICS, a unit with Marcus Henriksson and Kuniyuki of Minilogue/Son Kite, which has a worldwide following, will begin, and the long-awaited album will be released in 2021.


東京出身。15歳からバンドとＤＪの活動を並行して始め、スケートボードを通して知り合ったメンバーで結成されたバンドEvilPowersMeの音源は、 結成後すぐにアメリカのイラストレイターPusheadのレーベル等からリリースされる。DJとしてもその革新的でオリジナルなスタイルが一世を風靡し、 瞬く間に国内外の巨大なフェスからアンダーグランドなパーティまで活動が展開される。 ソロの楽曲制作としても米Grand RoyalからのBuffalo Daughterのリミックスを皮切りに、 Boredoms等のリミックス等メジャー、インディー問わず様々なレーベルからリリースされる。
2003年にキューバで現地ミュージシャンとレコーディングツアーを敢行したのを皮切りに、 その後世界各地で録音を重ね、新たなWorld Musicの指針として、立ち上げたレーベルCROSSPOINTを始動。
2015年から始まった怒濤の９ヶ月連続ヴァイナルリリースは大きな話題になり、その影響でベルリン／イスラエルのレーベルMalka Tutiなどからワールドワイドにリリースされ、 DJ TASAKAとのHIGHTIME Inc.、Nitro Microphone UndergroundのMACKA-CHINとPART2STYLEのMaLとのユニットZEN RYDAZ、 Minilogue/Son KiteのMarcus HenrikssonとKuniyukiとのユニットMYSTICSなど、そのオリジナルなヴィジョンは、あらゆるジャンルをまたぎ、拡散し続けている。
また音楽制作のみならず、映像作品、絵本や画集 のプロデュース、野外フェスOoneness Camp"縄文と再生”を企画するなど活動は多岐に渡る。
